Enchantment

11  1/2"  x  14"

"Enchantment" is a piece from several years ago.
Background is strip pieced and the tree is embroidered
in chain stitch.  Then beads are sewn over the entire image.
It's the stuff of myths and fairy tales...wood nymphs, tree
spirits, imprisoned wise women and princesses...dreams,
songs, memories out of time...and deep, deep sleep.

  1. Hm.. Have you studied Greek mythology? This work reminds me of the story of Daphne and Apollo. When the god Apollo was hit with one of Eros's arrows, he became infatuated with the nymph Daphne and chased her all through the forest. Daphne begged her father, a river god, to protect her, so he turned her into a laurel tree. Ironically, the laurel crown was associated with victory of a conquest.
